CMAA VIP Breakfast in Sacramento

On July 10, 2018, CMAA held a local VIP Breakfast at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel in Sacramento (a block from the Motive Power Office). The Department of General Services (DGS), Mr. Michael J. Meredith, DBIA Capital Outlay Program Manager was invited to speak on the upcoming approx. $2.3 Billion Design-Build Program to Build, Renovate, and Rehabilitate 10 buildings totaling approx. 3,785,429 square feet in the City of Sacramento. This is a ten year plan to utilize the industry’s latest management techniques such as; Lean Principles, Big Room Environments, CBA & A3 in a partnering atmosphere for adherence to schedule, cost, and quality.

Mike discussed the DGS direction to proceed with a RFP CM Role in phases as listed:

  • RFP CM Role-General; ◦Collaborate with RFP Criteria Architect ◦Collaborate with the EIR consultant ◦Support Broad Program needs
  • RFP CM Role–Criteria Document Phase ◦Setup Controls Systems ◦Develop RFQ and facilitate Process ◦Develop RFP Front End and Facilitate RFP Process ◦Validate Estimates and Budget ◦Develop & Manage Schedule ◦Identify contract strategies for DGS consultants such as Cx and Materials Testing ◦Collaborate with Criteria Architect
  • CM in D-B Phase Role ◦Administer the Project controls in collaboration with the D-B phase CM ◦DGS subconsultant Management ◦Broad administration of design standards ◦Responsible for Program consistency across multiple projects.

This was also an excellent networking event where Motive Power was able to renew contacts with; ARCADIS, VANIR, AECOM, Keifer Consulting, Sixth Dimension, Kitchell, Roebbelen Contracting, Inc., Swinerton and other companies local to the Sacramento region.
